The Georgia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church (M.E.C.) was organized at the church's General Conference of 1830. The members met for the first time in Macon, Georgia, in 1831. The Oakland City United Methodist Church had its beginnings as the first Methodist Sunday School for Oakland City, a community located in southwest Atlanta. The first meeting of the Sunday School took place on September 4, 1910. According to early accounts, the church was organized at some time during that same year.
